Instructions
for Use
Healthmark
Industries SST Retrieval System
1.
Transport
empty SST containers to the using location (O.R., E.R., etc.).
2.
Have
SST near using location for easy access (with or without Enzimatic solution).
3.
Place
soiled instruments in SST with or without soaking solution (follow hospital and
AAMI protocols). The closed container
protects personnel, patients, and the environment from contaminated contents
and helps the facility meet OSHA guidelines.*
4.
Return
the SST and enclosed instruments for decontamination.
5.
Remove
and place Steri-strainer with instruments in ultrasonic cleaner, washer
sterilizer, or autoclave to decontaminate instruments. SST cover and base can be decontaminated in
the same manner, but instruments cannot be “inside” closed SST system during
decontamination.
6.
Return
the empty “clean” SST to the floor, O.R., etc. for collection, soaking, and
transportation.
*OSHA Technical Footnote (Item 29 CFR part 1910, 1030 (d) (ii) (E)) from the Federal Register, December 6, 1991):
“Reusable sharps that
are contaminated with blood or other potentially infectious materials shall not
be stored or processed in a manner that requires employees to reach by hand into
the containers where these sharps have been placed.”
